From a laying question to a practical floor plan
Lamistra grew out of a practical question while laying a click vinyl floor: how can you distribute the end joints for a calm pattern while making good use of offcuts?
Assess the pattern before you start
Starting the next row with the offcut from the previous row is straightforward, but can also create noticeable stair-step and repeated patterns. Lamistra lets you preview the distribution and calculate different choices.
From a practical question to a calculation model
The approach uses techniques from Operations Research: the field that uses mathematical models to improve decisions and planning.
The model builds possible layouts row by row. Your dimensions and minimum distances determine which solutions are allowed. Within those constraints, a scoring model compares material use and pattern repetition, retaining a selection of the best possibilities at each step. This produces a practical plan that you can assess and adjust.
Improved through practical feedback
Lamistra has been developed step by step and improved through practical tests and calculation checks. Feedback has helped make the output clearer and the app easier to use.
The aim remains practical: to show in advance what your choices mean for the appearance of the floor, the cutting work and material use.
